We specialize in children/adolescent behavioral health with a speciality in trauma related issues. The mind is powerful and has the ability to process experiences in healthy adaptive ways. We want to assist you by providing you the space to be your unfiltered self, take hold of your narrative, find your authenticity, and make this process purposeful.
Here at POM our approach is evidenced-based. Evidenced-based means treatment modalities, that have successfully passed clinical trials, backed by science, are often federally supported and effectively improve a range of emotional and behavioral presentation. Examples of our most frequently used evidenced-based modalities are:
EMDR: Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an enhanced therapy model that desensitizes distressing events or negative self-beliefs through work with negative memories. It by- passes traditional talk-therapy approach and brings relief through a memory a processing protocol that facilitated by an EMDR-certified practitioner. Core components of this modality are: soothe/safety, memory, bi-lateral stimulation and enhancing core-self beliefs.
TF-CBT: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy is a short-term eight-step treatment course for children ages 5-18 who have been impacted by trauma. It aims to both process and desensitize child to the traumatic event so that they are no longer distressed by it, rather aware, integrated and released of their negative cognitions. CBT: Cognitive behavioral therapy is a classic and common insight-oriented modality that promotes symptoms reduction through building a therapeutic relationship, gaining an understanding of self and facing painful feelings. Core components of this modality are: challenging distorted thinking, deconstructing negative experiences, education of basic emotional functioning and shifting your narrative from a self-destructive to self-liberating.
